Where the River is

Maud van den Beuken Lets the River Flow Through Rotterdam

The Sediment Station is settling on the Schiehavenkade: an outdoor exhibition by artist Maud van den Beuken in which the silt of the Nieuwe Maas plays the leading role. Discover the river as a living entity and discuss the value of what we usually wash away.

As part of the Rotterdam Architecture Month, TENT presents Sediment Station at Schiehavenkade — an outdoor exhibition by artist Maud van den Beuken, centering the river as a living entity. In collaboration with the public, experts, and the Port of Rotterdam, silt from the Nieuwe Maas — typically dredged and removed — is instead brought into the heart of the city, becoming both material and conversation starter.

Weigh your own portion of silt, watch the film Modder / Mother, and join Van den Beuken in exploring how we can give literal and symbolic weight to the river.

Sediment Station is free to visit throughout the month of June.
