Exhibition
Always container, sometimes contained
On the symbolic geographies of the house
You are invited to Oud House for the exhibition ALWAYS CONTAINER, SOMETIMES CONTAINED. The exhibition examines the house not only as an architectural structure, but as a space that holds and transforms our understanding of the world.
‘Where do you live? Did you leave a piece of yourself in every room you slept in, pack yourself into a suitcase every time you moved, turn a house into a keepsake even if you couldn’t keep it?
Do you have the keys? Can we go there?
ALWAYS CONTAINER SOMETIMES CONTAINED, inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s seminal work The Poetics of Space, explores the house not just as an architectural structure, but as a space that holds and transforms our understanding of the world. In this exhibition, nine artists imagine the house both as a site of comfort and constraint, where the past and present intersect to reveal the complex relationship between space and self. Drawing from Bachelard’s vision of the house as a microcosm of the universe, the exhibition explores the ways in which intimate spaces become shelters for dreams, memories, and desires.’
