Workshop
Barcode On Site
What is the next life of a building?
As part of Rotterdam Architecture Month, Barcode Architects opens its studio and nearby projects for a small-scale session with students and early-career designers. The programme moves between the office and the city, beginning with a short introduction before visiting CasaNova and The Muse, guided by the project architect.
CasaNova and The Muse were designed for contemporary urban living, but like all buildings, they will need to adapt over time. Changing needs, new forms of use, and shifting ideas about ownership and collectivity will continue to reshape how they are occupied.
Rather than looking back at the design, the session focuses on what comes next. Through a hands-on workshop, participants are invited to explore how one targeted intervention could extend the life of the building over the next 100 years. The emphasis lies not in redesign, but in rethinking: how can shared use, adaptability, or new forms of occupation allow a building to remain in use and adapt over time?
The session concludes with presentations and an open discussion, followed by informal drinks.
