Bauhaus of the Seas

Bauhaus of the Seas

Bauhaus of the Seas – Delta Pilot – The vision of the Bauhaus of the Seas is to demonstrate and archive solutions for climate neutrality with a particular focus on coastal cities as an interface to healthy seas, ocean and water bodies envisioning a new triangle of sustainability, inclusion, and design focused on the most important global natural space – our water bodies.

The BoS will offer opportunities to engage with communities for an environmentally sustainable, socially fair, and aesthetically appealing transition. From the Delta pilot perspective, we host an event to develop a strategy for the cross-border delta region from Rotterdam to Antwerp. Particularly for this event, we will be focusing on Delta case study (Rotterdam and Saeftinghe), along with some exhibitions on long term planning scenarios with water and Zoop model from Het Nieuwe Instituut.

Program

10:00       Welcome

10:10       Introduction of Bauhaus of the Seas

Moderators – Alankrita Sarkar (Vereniging Deltametropool) and Ellen Zoete (Het Nieuwe Instituut)

  • The Bauhaus of the Seas addresses key challenges of today in light of climate change, by focusing on the relation between sea and land through the lens of port city territories on multiple water bodies. It argues that we can achieve change through cultural interventions (drops) (by Prof. Carola Hein, TU Delft)
  • The Delta, one of the pilots of the Bauhaus of the Sea is characterized by diverse cities and ports in complex water systems and landscapes. It also is home to two drops (Zoop and Tidal Architectures) and forms a unique place to experiment with the propositions of the project and to establish a Sea Forum (by Paul Gerretsen, Vereniging Deltametropool and Elise Haentjens, EGTS Linieland)
  • The BoSS geospatial platform aims to be an online foundation for gathering and visualizing knowledge of port city territories, their spatial and socio-economic characteristics, their governance practices, narratives and architectural interventions. (Michael Rodrigues, TU Delft).
