The tour is led by Annemiek Strijker (Senior Sustainability Advisor, Erasmus University), architect Matthijs Engele (Paul de Ruiter Architects), and Marcel Langeveld (Sustainability Advisor, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences).
Langeveld Building – Erasmus University
The ‘Langeveld Building’, a multifunctional educational building at campus Woudestein of Erasmus University Rotterdam, is one of the most sustainable university buildings in the Netherlands. Opened in 2022, it is a circular, energy-neutral, and healthy building. The building was designed in accordance with the principles of biophilic design and utilizes an innovative climate control system called Earth, Wind & Fire. The atrium’s structure was constructed using sustainable Dutch tree trunks.
Building C – Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences
The second building is the Kralingse Zoom location of Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. ‘Building C’ was commissioned in 2023 and was designed by the same architect as the Langeveld Building, Paul de Ruiter Architects. This is also an energy-neutral building where much attention has been paid to health and sustainable materials, with plenty of natural light and fresh air.
