From June 6 to 9, Rotterdam houses of worship will open their doors again during the third edition of the Heilige Huisjes Rotterdam festival. More than 40 churches, synagogues, temples and mosques offer a varied program, for and by Rotterdam residents.

“During this third edition, extra attention was paid to collaborations between places of worship and culture makers. This has resulted in a very fun, diverse and inspiring program!” – Sander Ummelen, project coordinator

Visitors can discover religious heritage at locations throughout the city. For example, bake bread with BROODerhood in the AyaSofya Mosque, return to the roots of the Norwegian Church with VikingFest!, take an alternative procession through Cool Zuid, follow a workshop by the Scapino Ballet in the Waalse Kerk, a fashion makeover undergone by Logocomo in the Church of the Nazarene, discover their inner artist with Sip ‘N Paint in The Scots International Church and with poets and musicians in Heavenly Routes on the road along lost sacred houses.

Theater maker Mathieu Wijdeven investigates the story of his Surinamese ancestors in the Moravian Church, Ruwhel and De Bigi Blues Band are on the stage of the Laurenskerk and Circusstad Festival shows their tricks in the Grote Kerk in Overschie. In addition, several churches open their doors for an open house.
