Architecture City #14

Every city needs ‘sanctuaries’, open spaces that are not fully programmed down to the last square meter, but rather offer the space to occupy, interpret and program them again and again. The Land van Hoboken estate passed into the hands of the city in 1924. The condition was that it would be used for functions that served the community. Since then, schools, a hospital, museums, a park and a depot have been built. Architecture City #14 examines the area from different perspectives: social, historical and design. Is everyone still welcome here? And how much space does the Museumpark still offer for unprogrammed activities? Can we still see and experience the historical developments that the Land of Hoboken has undergone? And what are the effects of an excess of metropolitan ambitions on the design? Architecture City will talk to development psychologist, journalist and initiator of Tussenstad, Leeszaal West and Recht op de stad, Joke van der Zwaard; with architect, eco-social designer and designer of the Time Tower, Alexandra Sonnemans; and with designer of textiles, landscape, exhibitions and designer of the Museumpark, Petra Blaisse.

• The Henket Pavilion is located in the southern wing of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, adjacent to the Museum Garden. The entrance can be found on the side of the Museum, located on the Melkkoppad. The entrance can be recognized by a large Rotterdam Architecture Month sign.
