What would Rotterdam look like as a national park in 2030? During the City Makers Congress 2023, initiators, city makers, designers and the municipality of Rotterdam worked together on this question. By first looking for green connections at district and neighborhood level and then looking at the scale of the city, surprising new insights emerged.

After the conference, BVR collected these insights and processed them into a green map, which helps to make this dream more concrete step by step. The map is now part of the multi-year exhibition National Park Rotterdam in the Natural History Museum Rotterdam and will be festively presented on Wednesday 5 June. We also look back at the 2023 City Maker Congress and look ahead.

About Rotterdam National Park

A multi-year campaign was launched in 2023 with the ambitious goal: a National Park Rotterdam by 2030. National Park Rotterdam provides the impetus for research into how the city can be made greener, healthier and more inclusive for a city-wide community. It is about working together on a green city from different perspectives. The story of a National Park Rotterdam provides energy to think long-term and large-scale, but at the same time hyper-local and personal, about the future of the city, Rotterdam style. Can we use it to change our common understanding of what a city is and who it is for?
