Anatomy of a Circular Bathroom
This workshop addresses the urgent need to rethink domestic space in the context of material, energy, and water scarcity.
Starting from one of the most resource-intensive rooms in the home, the workshop explores how circular principles can redefine both renovation and new-build strategies. Beyond technical innovation, the project reframes the bathroom as a micro-infrastructure where water, air, heat, and materials intersect—opening up new ways of designing for health, affordability, and circular living.
Through this workshop, lessons will be drawn from collective discussion and presented case studies.
Anatomy of a Circular Bathroom is an applied research initiative by Studio ACTE, supported by the Stimuleringsfonds under the “Fresh Perspectives” scheme.

About Studio ACTE
Studio ACTE was founded by Estelle Barriol in Rotterdam in 2020, which she now runs together with Fanny Bordes. Their practice is dedicated to exploring resilient, regenerative architecture, prioritising a “design and build” methodology, placing craftsmanship, geo-sourced materials, and radical reuse at the centre of its process. By focusing on low-tech solutions and 1:1 experimentation, they challenge industrial standards through hands-on research and participatory building sites.
