School’s Out! #43 with Wouter Vanstiphout on Carel Weeber

For the next School’s Out! on Friday 28 June, Wouter Vanstiphout, Dean Team of Independent School for the City and partner of Crimson Historians & Urbanists, will present his latest book “Autonoom: 100% Carel Weeber” on the life and work of architect Carel Weeber.

The evening will consist of a talk by Wouter Vanstiphout on Carel Weeber and a conversation with Jord den Hollander, architect and founder of the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam, on the basis of rarely seen film fragments on and by Carel Weeber from the sixties until now.

About “Autonoom: 100% Carel Weeber”

The definitive book on Carel Weeber, written by Architectural Historian Wouter Vanstiphout, published by Maas/Lawrence.

The book not only covers Weebers work but also his life, from his youth in Curaçao until his career as The Netherlands most controversial architect, including his surprisingly productive period as an ‘ex’architect. In an original way Vanstiphout analyzes Weeber’s architecture and urban design, the development of his ideas, his role in the architectural education and his contributions to the Dutch architectural culture since the sixties. Moreover he convincingly demonstrates how personal the apparently impersonal, ‘objective’  designs by Carel Weeber have always been.
