Sensory-friendly hour at the festival heart
On Sunday, June 11 and Sunday, June 18, you can visit the festival heart from 10 AM until 11 AM during our sensory-friendly hours.
This hour is especially for people who are easily overstimulated for whatever reason, including, for example, people with autism, a burnout, brain damage or high sensitivity. All screens and audio are turned off, there are no other activities during this hour, and only a limited number of people are allowed into the festival heart. Reserve your ticket using the link at the bottom of this page.
About the festival heart
During your visit to the festival heart, you will walk a walking route over three barges connected by a scaffolding structure with stairs. In total, there are about 300 steps that you walk up, so the festival heart is less suitable for people who have mobility problems or are wheelchair dependent. In the three barges you will find a park, event space, place for urban sports and the outdoor exhibition “Wet City” about water. In a few years the Nelson Mandela Park will come to this spot, experience already how that feels! Actually, the festival center is a kind of test site. Part of the route is a viewpoint over the Maashaven and the city.
Tips
- Everyone is advised to put on comfortable shoes during the visit.
- Do not put on your very best clothes, the barges may shed and stain your clothes if you touch the walls.
- Please use the restroom in the Maassilo before going up the barges, there is no restroom in the floating festival heart itself.
- The festival heart is mostly open and outdoors, so prepare for the weather conditions. Depending on the weather, bring an umbrella, sunscreen and/or water.
