Shining light on architectural lighting

The value of lighting design in architecture

Come visit lighting designers Linda Salamoun (Deerns) and Carlijn Timmermans (C.Light.Wise) at OMI during Rotterdam Architecture Month on Friday, June 28, 2024 to discover the value of lighting design for architecture and its users.

This interactive lecture has the topic ‘Shining light on architectural lighting’ and is organized in the OMI (Office for Metropolitan Information).

Visibility and perception are essential to understanding our surroundings. Good lighting design is invaluable and can elevate the context of the space to the next level. Lighting designers Linda Salamoun (Deerns) and Carlijn Timmermans (C.Light.Wise) take you into the wonderful world of light

During the lecture they will tell you in a nutshell what light is, how we as humans perceive light and why it is important to think about light within the earlier stages of the architectural design process. The use of light and darkness in architecture is highlighted. Visual comfort, sustainability and perception are key elements of lighting design, with which we will be experimenting during the second part of the night.

To experience the fundamentals of lighting design, it is time to roll up your sleeves, push chairs aside and investigate the big questions about light on site. You will work in groups with architectural luminaires to discover answers to your questions.
