Join in: Silent Sky Laurenskerk
Lie down. Look up. Do nothing for a moment.
On June 6, between 11:00 and 11:30 AM, the square by the Laurenskerk will transform for thirty minutes into a place of silence. Hundreds of people will lie on their backs and gaze at the sky. Together, they will form a collective artwork – and you can be part of it!
RUST in de Reuring, together with the Laurenskerk and art producer Mothership, is organizing the participatory artwork Silent Sky#97 Laurenskerk by artist Rob Sweere on June 6 at Grotekerkplein, near the statue of Erasmus. The quote from Erasmus, “Make haste slowly,” perfectly captures the message this artwork conveys.
Everyone from Rotterdam (including you) can participate in this artwork for free. It emphasizes the importance of calm and stillness in our dynamic city—by spending half an hour lying completely still while staring at the sky. “Famous Rotterdammers” will also be invited to join. The program starts at 10:30 AM, the stillness lasts from 11:00 to 11:30 AM, and afterwards the post-event program (including evaluation talk), including a free lunch, runs until 2:00 PM. More information can be found in the teaser and the digital flyer.

This is a unique opportunity to become part of a living artwork. The photo shows the project in India. Here in Rotterdam, you can just participate in your everyday Rotterdam outfit.
