On June 15th, AIR, the Rotterdam Library and the gemeente Rotterdam are organising the talk show ‘the transformation of the Central Library of Rotterdam’. During this talkshow, moderator Hasna el Maroudi will talk to the selection committee, Rotterdam Library and the winning design team about the transformation of the Central Library.

Theo Kemperman (director of the Rotterdam Library) talks about the library’s need for the transformation of the building. The selection committee then takes us through how they came to the choice of the winning design. And of course the winning design team from Powerhouse Company, Atelier Oslo and Lundhagem joins us and takes us through the visions and ideas for the new design. We end with a look at the temporary housing of the Central Library.

About the transformation

The Central Library will be renewed in the coming years. To this end, a process has been started by the gemeente Rotterdam in collaboration with the Rotterdam Library. For this, a request was made to a design team. From the applications, five teams were selected who made a sketch design for the building, the interior and the outdoor space.
