The Skatable City
What a Mess Walkshop with Pedro Gil Farias
Wednesday June 21, is ‘Go Skateboarding Day’! Join interaction designer and skater Pedro Gil Farias on a 3D-scanning scavenger hunt for the best skating spots in Rotterdam.
This includes places that currently restrict skateboarders or objects and locations that present challenges in the physical world but offer perfect opportunities for digital kickflips. The resulting 3D scans will be uploaded to a modified version of the skateboarding videogame ‘Skater XL’, allowing us to transform Rotterdam into the ultimate skateable city—albeit in the digital realm.
The walkshop is part of ‘What a Mess’, a collaborative project by Pedro Gil Farias and Hugo Pilate. It aims to explore through 3D scanning workshops the untapped narrative potential of public space, and its place in the digital representation of cities.
