Symposium
Thinking Typology in Design
Students present typology‑based design research, followed by discussion and an informal reception. You are welcome to engage with the students and recent graduates who are examining typological thinking in their design research.
Across various architecture programmes, typology is used as a way to analyse historical architecture, spatial patterns, and cultural contexts, and to translate these insights into contemporary design strategies. During the afternoon, students will present their research and design work grounded in studies of historical architecture — both within the Netherlands and abroad. These may include projects that investigate traditional dwelling types, urban structures, or regional building cultures, and reinterpret them within a contemporary design framework.
The aim of the event is to exchange knowledge and methods related to typological research and to spark a conversation between different schools and design practices. After the presentations, there will be an informal reception with space for further discussion.
