Where and how will our (great) grandchildren in 100 years’ time be able to live, work and recreate as comfortably and safely as we do? If we have to take into account accelerated sea level rise, nitrogen problems, impending freshwater shortages, fast-growing cities, a changing port and we also want to remain in balance with nature?

Over the past 100 years, our region has transformed and grown into an impressive metropolitan area, with a world port and a strong economy. Further urbanization and other major challenges of today bring new challenges. What we need are good and innovative visions of the future of our cities and landscapes to ensure that the living environment for people, plants and animals is and remains good and healthy in the coming century.

The Municipality of Rotterdam, the Province of South Holland and Delta Program Rhine Estuary-Drechtsteden, in collaboration with other stakeholders, have submitted the Rhine-Meuse Estuary region as a study area for the Eo Wijers Competition 2022-2023. As part of this competition, various design teams have developed a vision for the future for this region. Three were selected from the various entries:

• TWEESTROMENLAND – LEVE(N)DE DELTASTAD!
• ZOALS GETIJ HET LAND VORMT, BOUWEN WIJ SAMEN
• ROTTERDAM WATERSTAD 2100

These will be presented on Friday 23 June (in Dutch). Come and listen to the design teams and talk to each other about these visions of the future!

Practical Info

• The designs will be exhibited in the 3rd barge of the festival heart from June 23 to June 30.
• If you visit this program, it is not necessary to buy a separate admission ticket for the festival heart. A ticket for this program already gives you access to the floating festival heart.
• Please report to the welcome desk of the Rotterdam Architecture Month at the square in front of the Maassilo. Here, scan your ticket and receive a wristband that will grant you access to the program in the floating festival heart. If you arrive 30 minutes before the start of the program, you can also take a route through the festival heart.
• IMPORTANT! Do not go directly to the floating platforms without a (program) wristband, as you will not be granted access.
