Are you a community builder or an engaged resident in one of these neighborhoods? Or are you professionally involved? Then this workshop session ‘Cooperative Opportunity Map’ is interesting for you.

RoCoCo, Arcadis and Platform Woonopgave are collaborating on a “Cooperative Opportunity Map” for Rotterdam. In this session, we will jointly identify locations that are highly suitable for creating affordable housing through housing cooperatives (by and for local residents). We will do this based on insights into both the social and physical characteristics of the neighborhood. In this first session, together with engaged residents, people with lived experience, designers, and other professionals, we will focus on Lombardijen, Groot IJsselmonde, BoTu, and Oude Noorden. If the initiative proves successful, additional neighborhoods will follow in future sessions.

Atlas of Opportunities

The development of the map and the integration of all insights are being carried out by Platform Woonopgave and RoCoCo, in collaboration with Vereniging Deltametropool and Katalys. We are supported by AIR and the Municipality of Rotterdam. The intention is for the map to become part of the “Atlas of Opportunities” on the potential of making better use of the existing housing stock, commissioned by the Municipality of Rotterdam and developed by Vereniging Deltametropool and Platform Woonopgave.

Prototypes

The (interim) results will take the form of concrete and thought-provoking neighborhood-level prototypes. These will be presented on June 18 during the Rotterdam Day for Housing Cooperatives to the outgoing Alderman for Housing, with the aim of drawing positive attention to affordable and community-led development in Rotterdam.
