On this workshop day, you’ll get hands-on while actively engaging with circular practices!

Design a chair from reclaimed materials, restore an old door, discover edible plants in the city, or collaboratively draw a panorama of the Keilekwartier. Each workshop starts from a different discipline, but they all share the same question: how can we revalue existing materials, places, and systems?

The workshops:

Chair Circular Challenge by Archiklas (ages 5–15 + parents)
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Archiklas presents the Chair Circular Challenge! How do you design a chair using leftover materials? In this workshop, you’ll work like a real architect and design a chair — but entirely from reused materials! This creative walk-in workshop focuses on circularity and design for children aged 5 to 15 and their parents. You’ll explore where materials come from, what happens to them after use, and how we can extend their lifespan.

Foraging Walk + Tasting at De Voedseltuin
2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Discover just how much edible food grows in and around Rotterdam during this foraging walk. Together with experienced forager Lara Egbring from @therootoflife, you’ll search for wild herbs and plants. You’ll learn how to identify them safely and how to use them in the kitchen. The workshop ends with a small tasting of homemade foraged products. Please note: gathering takes place in the Voedseltuin.

The City of Your Sketchbook by Roozeboos
2:30 PM – 4:30 PM

Dive into the world of urban sketching with illustrator Roozeboos. Get inspired by the Keilekwartier and draw your own interpretation of a part of the neighborhood. Together with the other participants, the drawings will form a 360-degree panorama.

Workshop: From Earth to Compressed Earth Blocks
12:00 PM – 6:00 PM

What does it take to turn earth into a building material? During this practical course, Studio ACTE will teach you how to make compressed earth blocks from locally sourced soil. You’ll learn the basic principles of earth construction and discover the sustainable possibilities it offers for building.

Circular ‘Timmerdorp’

On 20 and 21 June, kids between 6 and 16 years old can come and work (under supervision) on a temporary village made of reused materials: the Circular ‘Timmerdorp’

Vintagemarkt: De Kaai Markt goes Keilekwartier
11:00 – 17:00

Not a workshop, but just as much fun! Come and shop at the pop-up edition of De Kaai Markt in the Keilekwartier. On this day, the ‘Test Site Materialenwerf’ is where you can look for all kinds of second-hand treasures, from lamps and vases to coffee cups and carpest. Free entry.
