Iconic Post '65-architecture in Rotterdam-South
Come take a look inside the Zonnetrap and discover more about the origins and design of this experimental residential building for elderly people in Rotterdam-Zuid.
Netwerk Post ’65 Rotterdam organizes guided tours of the building, where three experts will take you into the world of elderly housing, experimental housing construction, and the work of architect Luzia Hartsuyker-Curjel. They will also highlight the significance of the Zonnetrap as an icon of Post ’65 architecture in Rotterdam.
Practical info
- The program lasts from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm, including the tours.
- The tours will take place before and after the lectures.
- Upon registration, you will be randomly assigned to a tour before or after the lectures.
- There are only 60 spots available.

Speakers
Marcel Barzilay is architect at Barzilay+Ferwerda, woon+wijkvernieuwers. He is co-author of the book Experimental Housing in the Netherlands. B+F is working on the transformation of the post-65 City.
Ellen Smit is architectural historian. Since 2001 she works as curator at the Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam. In 2015 she headed students with their archival research to housing for elderly in the collection of the Nieuwe Instituut.
Lidewij Tummers is architect and researcher with her own office (Tussen Ruimte, Rotterdam) and collaborates with the Nieuwe Instituut on the project 'Collecting Otherwise'.
