A workshop by Lex Pott
Circular Residency: Paper & Cardboard
Rotterdam Circulair has invited designer Lex Pott to take on the role of Circular Resident and work with a local Rotterdam material stream. And you can take part! During this special two-day workshop, Lex will introduce you to the world of paper and cardboard.
Participants will work hands-on with paper-based residual materials from Rotterdam. The strength of this material does not lie simply in reuse or recycling, but in its beauty and its ability to take on new functions. This is material research you can feel, see and use. It is both conceptual and hands-on.
During the workshop, participants will transform this Rotterdam residual stream into their own creations. These works will then be exhibited during Rotterdam Architecture Month at a location in M4H. After the month, all works can be taken home. Everyone aged 18 and over is welcome, from amateurs to professionals.
Lunch, coffee and tea will be provided during the workshop. Unfortunately, it is not possible to accommodate dietary intolerances or allergies.
About the designer
Rotterdam-based designer Lex Pott has his studio in M4H. His work is raw and intuitive. In his practice, he returns to the origins of the materials he uses most: wood, stone and metal. Rather than concealing his designs beneath indirect layers, he reduces them to their essence. Lex has designed for brands including HAY, IKEA, &Tradition, Vitra and HEMA.
About the initiator
By 2050, Rotterdam aims to be a fully circular city. Rotterdam Circulair recognises the value of design expertise and wants to use it to transform Rotterdam’s material streams into products or services that contribute to this goal. After all, the materials are already here — but perhaps we do not yet see everything they could become.
Rotterdam Circulair intends to establish a Circular Residency as part of the area development of M4H. Design expertise is already strongly present here and deserves space for experimentation and innovation. The Circular Residency provides that space.
