Festivalheart Rotterdam Architecture Month 2021
Discover the undercurrent in thé festivalheart of the 5th edition of the Rotterdam Architectuur Month (RA Month)!
Deep underground in the parking garage, directly below Kruisplein, it becomes visible how the professional world of designers, design training courses, market parties and the municipality of Rotterdam are working together on a resilient city. In the exhibition, the daily (online) programming, guided tours and festivals, the innovative power of architecture is shown and linked to the major challenges facing us as a city.
Ideas and designs are largely developed out of sight of the general public. In this “undercurrent” innovation and experiment take place and research is done into the future of the city. Only much later do the designs surface, in beautiful presentations and promising images they manifest themselves in built form. How do the beautiful images and roaring promises relate to pressing urban issues about justice, energy transition, innovation and climate adaptation?
With his intervention behind the scenes of urban development, architect Enzo Valerio has designed a carrier for the Festival Heart of the RA Month. For the exhibition space he designed a landscape of concrete rubble in which an exhibition, workshop rooms and a presentation studio have been placed. The exhibition consists of models of the municipality of Rotterdam. There are also contributions from a wide range of Rotterdam architectural firms and educational institutions. Here they expressly express their own vision of the future development of the city.
During the month of June, RA Month shows the for many invisible world of design for the general public, on the bottom floor of this City garage, directly below Kruisplein. Discover the undercurrent and experience how designers work with models, drawings and installations and think about the city of tomorrow.
Immerse yourself in architecture
You can visit the exhibition for free and without an appointment. You can find the entrance at the pavilion opposite De Doelen and Ayla. The exhibition is open from Thursday to Sunday from 12 to 17 PM. The RA Month is an initiative of AIR in collaboration with Rotterdam Festivals and Rotterdam Partners.
