Lecture
Openingslecture Ninke Happel
RA Month '22

The sixth edition of Rotterdam Architecture Month kicks off with the opening lecture on Wednesday evening, June 1. At a height of 29 meters, from the Festival Heart of RA Month, Ninke Happel of HCVA will discuss the theme of RA Month, Vista Rotterdam! and the theme of the main exhibition (T)Huis.
Vista Rotterdam!
From The Podium, on top of Het Nieuwe Instituut, we see urban growth passing by. What do we see, what do we not see? Does this overwhelming panorama of the city reflect our home, or does feeling at home take place on the ground, at eye level? Starting from these two themes, Happel challenges us with a exercise in considering the long-term value of architecture in a chaotic short-term world. In a constantly changing environment, Happel sees that the built environment is best served by long-term interventions.
Programme
The opening lecture is part of the festive opening of the Rotterdam Architecture Month on June 1st. After the opening by mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb, we talk to Rijksadviseur voor de fysieke leefomgeving Wouter Veldhuis about the spatial challenges of the energy transition. Afterwards, Ninke Happel kicks off the RA Month ’22 with the opening lecture.
