Young NVTL Debate | A palm tree in the polder?
The debate on whether exotic trees and plants should play a more prominent role is intensifying as climate change challenges traditional approaches to planting. In addition, impacts on native ecosystems and the aesthetics of our landscapes continue to be very important. During the Young NVTL Debate, a panel of experts will lead the discussion on the delicate balance between ecological conservation, climate-adaptive interventions and the artistic integrity of landscape design. You too can participate and contribute to the dialogue that shapes the profession of landscape architect.

Dialogue | Next Generations: Post-War Rotterdam to Post-War Ukraine
How can the next generations of Ukrainians participate in the future development of Ukrainian cities? What design skills will be required for the future (re)building? What can Ukrainian architects and urban planners learn from the experience of post-war reconstruction of Rotterdam? And how can young Ukrainians actively shape the environment in The Netherlands, where they found their second home?
On 7 June, join in at the Henket pavilion for a conversation on the role of youth in urban development, sharing experiences from post-war Rotterdam to post-war Ukraine.
Exhibition | ‘Tutti Frutti: a layered discovery of the Citrusveiling’
For many years, fruit from all over the word was auctioned at the Citrusveiling in the Merwe-Vierhaven area. The building, designed by Hugh Maaskant and Bert van Dommelen, built in the 1950s and a national monument since 2010, is still more or less in its original state in both interior and exterior. In the two-day exhibition Tutti Frutti, Architecture master students at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture and Urban Design present the results of an exploration initiated by md-2 architects. Discover the material and immaterial layers of the building, from the past to potential future(s).
Dialogue | Operator Radio x AIR x N8W8
What does nightlife mean for Rotterdam? And how does urban development relate to this nightlife? These questions were asked by N8W8 and AIR during an event last year that explored the possibilities for a vibrant, safe and accessible nightlife in Rotterdam. This year, the discussion continues during a live broadcast of Operator Radio. Included are various guests who are invited to talk about urban design and architecture. This programme will be recorded and can be heard live on Operator Radio.
Dialogue | FuckUp Nights #2: Architecture edition
Entrepreneurship involves ups and downs. But how often do you actually hear the honest story? About bankruptcies, flopped products, cancelled collaborations – in short, fuck-ups? Well, during BlueCity’s FuckUp Nights. The next edition has the theme of ‘architecture’ and is being organised in collaboration with the Nieuwe Instituut. Led by moderator Nadia Troeman, four Rotterdam architectural icons will each be given 10 minutes to present their biggest fuck-up. What went wrong? And what did they learn from it? Both the moderator and you, the audience, have the chance to fire questions at them afterwards during a short Q&A.
