See the city through the eyes of a bat, or experience what it’s like to navigate Rotterdam while homeless. The tours available this coming weekend offer a fresh perspective on the city.
Tour of Collective Outdoor Spaces in Bospolder and M4H
During this “Walkshop” with Carolien Hoogland (urban psychologist) and Frank Schipper (historian/political scientist), you will reflect on your own experiences and analyze public space to gain insight into the factors that influence the livability of a street, square, or park.

City Tour: Homeless in Rotterdam
A group of visitors from the Pauluskerk will guide you through the streets of Rotterdam. Starting beneath the Erasmus Bridge, this walk offers insight into what it means to live on the streets and the challenges of rebuilding your life. Proceeds from the tour support people dealing with the consequences of homelessness.
Bioblitzes in the Urban Food Garden
During a Bioblitz, you’ll join experts in identifying species already present in the area and record your observations through Waarneming.nl. Together, you’ll explore the question: What does Rotterdam look like when viewed not only through human eyes, but also through those of birds, bats, lichens, and other urban inhabitants?
Bioblitz 1: Lichens & Pioneer Species
Bioblitz 2: Bats & Nocturnal Mammals
Bioblitz 3: Birds in the Keile District
19 & 20 June | Various times | Voedseltuin (Urban Food Garden) | Free (or donation-based)
Walking Through a Patchwork of Architecture
Join city guide Narjara Grondman on a walk through Rotterdam’s many architectural styles.
No two streets are the same in Rotterdam. During this tour, you’ll discover how the city is made up of a rich patchwork of architectural styles, eras, and stories—from 19th-century streets and 1930s villas to postmodern icons and bold contemporary experiments.
Architecture Walk: Reading Rotterdam (in French)
Joé Stehlin, French teacher and architectural historian, invites you to explore the city’s architectural transformations. He will teach you how to “read” Rotterdam, decode its often unique and surprising buildings, and discover unexpected details along the way.
Please note: this tour is conducted in French.
Wild in the West
Join landscape architect Laura Vos and musician Matthijs Lievaart on an expedition through the hidden landscapes of Rotterdam-West. This midsummer walk takes you past roadside verges, forgotten railway corridors, allotment gardens, infrastructure edges, and spontaneous urban nature areas between Spangen and M4H.
